The Circus! Who does not remember the circus from the earliest days of childhood? That enchanted place of lions and tigers, clowns and jugglers, tumbling acrobats and men shot out of cannon. In a stunning and spectacular tour de force, LeRoy Neiman brings all the drama, thrills, excitement and skills of the circus to a single serigraph.
Neiman's is the classic three-ring circus. His sweeping panorama of the cavernous arena takes in all three rings, from the sawdust on the floor to the rafters. Amazing acts are deftly executed everywhere one looks. Above the ringmaster, in the center ring, the tiger trainer puts his towering tabbies through their routines. In the ring to the left, one polar bear rides a bicycle while another balances on a heavy-duty beach ball. In the ring to the right, bare-back riders perform feats of acrobatics while mounted atop galloping gray chargers. Decorated elephants topped by plumed beauties parade around the perimeter, while overhead trapeze artists defy gravity with grace, strength and split-second timing. Scattered all around are clowns, jugglers, and still more acrobats. The print pulsates with all the energy and excitement of the Big Top.
Befitting this dazzling spectacle, the "Circus" serigraph is the largest limited edition serigraph ever created by Neiman, with an image size of 43¾" x 65". The print required 58 color screens and took more than two years to produce in conjunction with the artist's long-time atelier, Brand-X Editions of New York City. This unique serigraph has also been limited to an edition size of just 90 numbered prints. Neiman collectors are certain to consider "Circus" to be as special as a day at the circus.
