The “money pitcher” for the New York Yankees during their “dynasty” years of the 1950s and 1960s, Whitey Ford was known as a confident, cool and clever pitcher who produced under pressure. He will forever be associated with magical names like Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Yogi Berra and Casey Stengel. In 1974, Ford was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, along with his great buddy, Mickey Mantle, and the Yankees retired his uniform, number 16.

LeRoy Neiman once again takes us to the center of the action, to a place most of us could never actually go, this time facing one of baseball’s greatest pitchers. The featured serigraph is a full-length portrait of Ford on the mound in his Yankee pinstripes. The pitcher looks calm, focused and determined. His center fielder and second baseman are in the background, poised and positioned to chase a hit. With his skill at creating depth and perspective, the artist shows the baseball, just released, hurtling toward home plate. We viewers, in the batter’s box, are invited to keep our eyes on the ball and to imagine swinging at a pitch by Whitey Ford.
With this limited edition serigraph, Whitey Ford is admitted to Neiman’s personal pantheon of pitchers that includes Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan and Gaylord Perry, and the All-Star team that includes Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Cal Ripken, Willie Mays and Mike Piazza. This is a serigraph to be treasured by fans of Whitey Ford, the Yankees, baseball and LeRoy Neiman
